Mrs. Mary Ellen Griffin, age 89 years, of Springfield, Mo. passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at Valley Park Retirement Home in Holts Summit, Mo surrounded by family.
She was born on July 24, 1928 in Springfield, Mo. the daughter of James and Nell (Funk) Lisenby. She was married in 1947 in Springfield, Mo. to Jerry Griffin, who preceded her in death on August 27, 2015.
A resident of Springfield, Mo. for the majority of her life, Mary was a graduate of Senior High School.
She was employed with United Savings and Loan for over 15 years.
Mary was a homemaker and truly cherished the role as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Family was always the center of her life and she was consistently supporting, cheering and motivating them. In recent years, she loved spoiling her great-grandchildren and would never turn down time holding any of the babies. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness and always having a smile on her face.
She was a member of the Hood United Methodist Church in Republic, Mo.
Mary found peace being outdoors- often found reading and watching birds. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. Her family reaped the rewards of her home cooking, canning and fresh baked cookies, also enjoying treats from her garden.
Survivors include: one son, Gary Griffin (Terry) of Nixa, Mo.; three daughters, Janice Griffin of Springfield, Mo., Linda Griffin of Metuschen, New Jersey and Brenda Harvey of Jefferson City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Claire Neeley (Matt), Emily Lopez (Daniel), Troy Dameron (Crystal), Aaron Griffin (Bobbie), Adam Griffin (Sarah), Eric Griffin (April), Amy Foster (Jason), Bethany Jung (Chris), Sarah Bright (David) and Jeff Henderson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; one sister, Dorothy Burke; and one grandson, Jason Dameron.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Hood Methodist Church in Republic. Private graveside services and interment will be held at White Chapel Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association.
