Obituary for Donald Spears

Donald Spears
Mr. Donald Dee Spears, age 54 years, of Holts Summit, Mo. passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Don was born on November 26, 1963 in Atwater, California and was raised by his grandparents, Russell and Christine Spears. He was married on November 8, 1985 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Genevieve Colozza, who survives.

Don served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his time in the service. He was honorably discharged in June 1983.

He had been employed with the Fulton State Hospital helping with the care of patients. Don had previously worked as a machinist with Maytag and at Florsheim Shoe Company.

He was proud to recently receive his Associate’s Degree from Columbia College.

Don cherished time with his family and grandchildren. They will remember him for his caring and soft centered nature. He always enjoyed the company of his beloved dog, Slick, and cheering for his favorite team, the Oakland Raiders.

Survivors include: his wife, Genevieve Spears; three children, Daniel Roseman (wife Pamela) of Atkinson, Ks., DeWayne Spears of Jefferson City, Mo. and Stephanie Spears of Jefferson City, Mo.; one half-brother, David Nelson of Jefferson City, Mo.; and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Wanda Spears; and brother, Ben Spears.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 with a Celebration of Life Service held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. in the Freeman Chapel. Military honors will conclude his service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donald Spears Memorial Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
