Obituary for Charles Dunn

Charles Dunn
Mr. Charles W. Dunn, age 80 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by family.

Charles was born June 25, 1937 in Moberly, Mo. the son of Charles O. and Lenah C. (Wilson) Dunn. He was married on February 17, 1958 in Hernardo, Mississippi to Judith D. Edwards and he was excited to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this February.

Charles was a 1955 graduate of Moberly High School, Moberly, Mo.

He was employed in the entertainment industry for over 40 years. Charles worked with several movie theater companies including AMC, Redstone Theaters, Crown Amusements and Goodrich Theaters. He was a manager and later district manager and worked in Dallas, Omaha, and Cincinnati but always considered Jefferson City his home. While in Jefferson City, Charles managed the Bridge Drive-In in Cedar City, the Downtown Capitol Theater, and opened the Ramada 4 Theaters, Capital 4 Theater in the Mall and Capital 8 Theaters. He also opened the Hollywood Theater in Columbia, Mo. Charles retired as the district manager of the central Missouri Goodrich Theaters in 2003.

Charles was a member and deacon at the Elston Baptist Church.

He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals and stamp collecting. Charles cherished his time with his family including traveling to Branson, Alaska, Hawaii and always loved visiting major league baseball parks. Recently, he liked listening to the radio, watching the birds from his living room window and sitting with his Himalayan cat, Hemi.

Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Judith Dunn; three children, Greg W. Dunn and his wife Jennifer of Knoxville, Tn., Gary S. Dunn of Jefferson City, Mo., and Lori A. Armour and her husband Cary of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Holcomb of Moberly, Mo.; six grandchildren, Dylan Armour, Zach Dunn, Will Dunn, Alena Anderson, Kelsie Anderson and Meg McNamara and her husband Greg; and three great-grandchildren, Theo Dunn, Zohra Dunn and Charlie McNamara.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at the Elston Baptist Church from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Elston Baptist Church with the Reverend David Fitzgerald officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Elston Baptist Church, 1204 State Hwy T, Jefferson City, Mo. 65109 or the American Heart Association, 104 Corporate Lake Dr, Columbia, Mo. 65203.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
