Obituary for Phyllis Von Der Bruegge

Mrs. Phyllis W. Misseldine Von Der Bruegge, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Phyllis was born July 18, 1926 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England the daughter of Thomas J. and Gladys M. Healey Misseldine. She was married on July 30, 1949 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Clifford Von Der Bruegge who preceded her in death on November 26, 2012.

Phyllis began her education at the age of three and completed her education at the age of sixteen in England. She then continued taking college level classes until her early 80’s always having a zest for learning.

She immigrated to the United States on July 17, 1948. After her marriage, she was employed as a secretary and executive assistant for several state agencies and private businesses. One of her proudest employment was being Assistant Director of the International Program at Lincoln University where all her boys called her “Mum”.

Phyllis was a member of Central United Church of Christ and the Jefferson City Church of the Nazarene. Her very strong faith in God sustained her throughout her entire life.

She was very passionate about her knitting, writing short stories and poetry, reading, and her very beautiful and elaborate flower gardens. She always said her legacy was her hand knitted afghans, baby blankets and prayer shawls. She said her secret was that while she was knitting she made sure to knit “a lot of love” in there. Everyone who ever received one of these items could feel the love. You could always count on Phyllis, she volunteered for everything.

Phyllis enjoyed returning to her homeland of England and also the family vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks.

Survivors include: two children, Charlotte Marie Anderson and her husband Michael of Jefferson City, Mo. and Michael Andrew “Andy” Von Der Bruegge and his wife Shawn of Lohman, Mo.; one brother, Albert Misseldine and his wife Mandy; and one sister, Bette Blake; ten grandchildren, Justin Michael Hasselman and his wife Marseille, Derick Lawrence Hasselman and his wife Stacy, Stacia Marie Carr and her husband Bradley, Cassie Marie Melloway, Heather Michelle Downing, Traci Lynn Haskins and her husband Nathan, Chase Andrew Von Der Bruegge, Dylan Thomas Von Der Bruegge, Amber Bergerson and her husband Brian, and Azure Nicole Borea and her husband Mike; fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Marsha Gail Goedell and Maureen Ruth Siron, and one brother Edward Misseldine.

Visitation will be at the Central United Church of Christ from 11:00 am until 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, December 20, 2017 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Rushan Sinnaduray officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Phyllis Von Der Bruegge Memorial Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
