Dear Kathryn, Carol, Allen, Bonnie, Andi and Scott,
How shocking it was to learn of your loss. There is no way to understand the sorrow you must feel now. As everyone has said, Chris was one of a kind. His love for God, family, work, friends and those less fortunate touched everyone who knew him. He welcomed me to Elsberry as an 11-year-old and kept me attending the United Methodist Church. He let me drive his purple VW bug when I was 13, and I couldn't get the darn thing into reverse (sorry, Kathryn!) I never drove illegally again. When trouble in Ferguson began 11 days ago, and the Highway Patrol was brought in to help calm the city, the first person I thought of was Chris. He had a gift for soothing others, and I hope the people he taught carried his example with them. We will miss him terribly.
"Dear Kathryn, Carol, Allen, Bonnie, Andi and Scott,
How shocking it was to lear"
Dear Ricks family. I'm deeply saddened by the news of Chris' passing. I looked up to him throughout my whole life, and I know so many others did too. I've got a lot of very clear and fond memories of really great times in my life where he was there to provide advice, compassion, guidance and show leadership by his examples. I feel like there are an endless number of lives that he's touched in the very same way. Reading through all of the information on these pages, on Andi's stuff online and the emails I've received from campers, family friends & Emmaus people has really reinforced what an angel he was in his time here with us. The amount of lives touched is amazing. I know that we always say things like "he's in a better place now", but I feel like he's a rare example of someone who truly was an angel among us.
Even in this sad time for all of you, I hope that you can find comfort in knowing that the world really is a much better place because of Chris Ricks and the ways that God worked directly through him. He set the bar pretty high!
I'm praying for all of you right now, and I hope that you can find the strength to make it through this sad time. God bless.
