Dear Kathryn, Carol, Allen, Bonnie, Andi and Scott, How shocking it was to learn of your loss. There is no way to understand the sorrow you must feel now. As everyone has said, Chris was one of a kind. His love for God, family, work, friends and those less fortunate touched everyone who knew him. He welcomed me to Elsberry as an 11-year-old and kept me attending the United Methodist Church. He let me drive his purple VW bug when I was 13, and I couldn't get the darn thing into reverse (sorry, Kathryn!) I never drove illegally again. When trouble in Ferguson began 11 days ago, and the Highway Patrol was brought in to help calm the city, the first person I thought of was Chris. He had a gift for soothing others, and I hope the people he taught carried his example with them. We will miss him terribly.

Condolence: To all the Ricks family, we are so sad to learn of Chris's passing. What a good man he was and great servant for the Lord. I remember Chris was in my sister JoEllen's class and her telling me then of their friendship. Growing up in Elsberry and attending the methodist church with his family; Chris singing in the Choir and his mother playing the organ, and his father O'Garlan always so friendly. He touched the lives of so many people. I haven't seen Chris in several years but I think of him from time to time and will continue to do so. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Dave Brumagin and family Lake Tapawingo, Mo and sister Gay Jabbari, Indianapolis, In.

Condolence: Bonnie, my thoughts are with you. While I personally didn't know Chris, from all I have read, he must have been a wonderful person. I still have fond memories of us growing up together in church and MYF.

Condolence: God's loving spirit and comfort continue to be with you during this time of grief and loss. Chris had such a wonder heart and a way of expressing that love to those he came in contact with, weather it be at camp, on a Walk to Emmaus or on the Golf course. Sharing Agape Love was a way of life for Chris and all who received it him will always hold him in our thoughts.
May God be with the whole family. DeColores, Jerry

Condolence: Bonnie you and your family have my condolences. I retired from Troop C Radio a year before Chris retired and I knew him his whole career. In the many stories that he has told I am the one who sent him into an adjoining Zone to check the report of a tornado on the ground and he nearly got blown into a bridge abutment in the process. Chris always accused me of trying to get rid of him. In all of the many stories that we told about each other throughout the years, there was always a bit of truth in each of them. Usually it was a very little bit. You, I and many other people miss Chris and that is the way it ought to be because if we didn't then he would have had little impact upon our lives. You are in my prayers and we will get through this. Jim

Condolence: What a wonderful Christian man we have lost. Chris meant a lot to many people. He touched the lives of so many youth as well as adults. His Christian example will be remembered by all who knew him. I especially appreciated his work in camping while I was a camp director and then worked on the conference staff. Chris was so active in the Missouri East (and then West) Conference and influenced many important decisions of the conference.
Our prayers go out to the family at this very difficult time. We pray that the warm memories will console and strengthen each of you.

Condolence: Bonnie and family, I called a couple days ago and you were out... Gosh the Memories,,, fond, fond, memories of our joint trip to Israel, what....some 32 years ago.. and his humor during the bus tours him in the back and me in the front giggling, joking, riding camels, and both of you sharing clothing with others (strangers to you) on the trip whose luggage was lost.... you BOTH have been so giving in your lives, and the Emaues Community, the fellowship for the years to come... I moved to MN for 10 yrs and am back... I just lost my daddy and it was unexpected, although he'd been ill.... However, the loss of Chris hear on earth is exceptionally painful deep in our very being.... His struggles are over.... he's in a perfect place, perfect body, and keeping faithful to his own, I'm confident his personality in Heaven is the same.... Will see you soon... De Colores

Condolence: Bonnie: I am truly and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Chris. I was on Emmaus walk #3 and it seems like Chris was always a part of the community ... and the hilarious Gut-Bucket band. Even much later at the Emmaus Reunions I would always hear Chris' "well if it isn't the cow-man" booming over the speaker system. I remember one team meeting on a walk we served on together when Chris "put on his Trooper Face" and drastically changed his personna ... phew ... we were all glad he was on OUR side instead of outside our car on the highway. After that demonstration he would bust out with an uproarious belly laugh and said "got-cha didn't I?" Mostly I'll remember Chris as an shining example of what a true practitioner of the gospel of our Lord Jesus the Christ can be when a man allows himself to become second ... and let the LORD glow through him first. Yes Chris: You were counting on Christ; and Christ was counting on [and utilizing] you through your way-too-short life. You will be deeply and profoundly missed by all who had received Grace through knowing and serving with you.
