Mrs. Alverta C. “Nanna” Lane Whitesides, age 103 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at her home.
She was born November 15, 1906 in Bunceton, Mo. the daughter of Fredrick and Mattie Dora Wohlbeck Klein. She was married on March 14, 1927 in Versailles, Mo. to Lester Lane who preceded her in death in March, 1941. On January 23, 1943 in Ashland, Mo., she married Floyd Whitesides who preceded her in death on October 7, 1946.
A resident of the Jefferson City area for the past fifty-four years, Alverta was employed with Sunlight Laundry and with Capitol Printing Company from 1955 until her retirement in 1992.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Alverta enjoyed tole and ceramic painting. She also helped with the First Presbyterian Church Newsletter bi-monthly mailing and with the Samaritan Center Newsletter mailing until the age of 103.
Survivors include: one daughter, Rose McMurtry of Jefferson City, Mo; one granddaughter, Doris Eggers and her husband David of Florissant, Mo; one sister, Bernice Howard of Eldon, Mo.; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Klein of Versailles, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, five sisters, and four brothers.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon Saturday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 31, 2010 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend David Henry officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery.
