Mr. Richard Cameron Carbee, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Westphalia Hills.
He was born on October 31, 1919 in Lisbon, Iowa the son of Clarence W. and Mary E. Cameron Carbee. He was married on July 15, 1944 at the Cornell College Chapel to Margaret A. “Peg” Anderson.
He graduated from Lisbon High School, Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and the University of Iowa with a Master’s Degree in History.
Dick served in the United States Army in the Chemical Warfare Service during World War II.
He was President of Best Oil Company in Lisbon, Iowa and later was a teacher at Lisbon High School.
After retiring in 1977, he moved to Jefferson City where he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, and a teacher of the Harmony Sunday School Class.
He was a fifty year member and Past Master of the Benjamin Franklin Lodge A.F. & A.M., a member and past Commander of the Cyclops Post 109 of the American Legion, and in retirement he was a volunteer at the Capital Region Medical Center in the Lifeline program, and a volunteer with the First United Methodist Church.
Dick enjoyed painting pictures, writing stories, gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-six years, Margaret “Peg” Carbee of Westphalia Hills; one son, John Carbee and his wife Julie of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan,; one daughter, Ann Jones and her husband Neal of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 3, 2010 with a Masonic Service to be conducted at 9:30 AM in the Freeman Chapel under the auspices of the Jefferson Lodge No. 43, A.F. & A.M.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mark Dumas officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church or Hospice Compassus.
